BRITISH LABOUR
SOCIALISTIC POLICY
SWEEPING DECLARATION
PUBLICLY-OWNED INDUSTRIES
CLAIM TO SHARE CONTROL
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received March '23 . 6.35 p.m.)
LONDON, March 22
At a joint meeting of the general council of the Trades Union Congress and the executive committee of the Labour Party to-day it was decided to endorse the principle 'that the claim of organised labour to a place in the control and direction of publicly-owned industries shall be recog-
nised."
The Daily Telegraph's industrial writer says this sweeping declaration of policy is the culmination of a year of party discussion regarding the form that nationalisation should take. It means that when a Socialist Government is returned to power the Bank of England, the joint stock banks and staple industries will be placed under the control of boards of management.
The trades unions will select representatives to serve on the boards, and will claim self-government and workshop control, while rates of wages and hours of work will be negotiated between the trades unions and the joint boards.
