AMATEUR ATHLETICS

NEW CLUB FORMED A meeting of 70 old boys of tho Auckland Grammar School last evening decided to form an amateur athletic club. Mr. A. ,T. Billiiigton presided. Sixty members wero enrolled for tho new club. Tho headmaster of tho Auckland Grammar School, Mr. H. J. D. Malion, and Mr. 11. :L. Towers, secretary of tho Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycling Centre, addressed the meeting. Mr. Malion said the school athletic fields and gear would be placed at tho disposal of the club. A committee was appointed to draw up rules and constitution. It was decided to start active operations next and to limit membership to old boys of Grammar Schools.

HAMILTON, Thursday

Excellent progress during the past year was reported at the annual meeting of the Hamilton Harrier Club held last evening. The president, Mr. E. V. Staco, presided. Membership t had increased to a record total and the deficit incurred in the previous season had been entirely wiped out. leaving a small credit balance. Visits to Auckland and Te Kuiti were made and the club retained tho Patterson Cup, the Calliope Club, of Auckland, being tho challengers. . Officers for the ensuing year wore elected as follows:—Patron. Hon. J. A. Young, M.P.,; president. Mr. E. V. Stace; vicepresidents, Messrs. F. A. do la Mare, Watson. Gamble, H. Valder, T. MacLennan, Hale, R. S. Ready. Gilchrist, Jones, Wild, Taylor; captain, Mr. G. R. Ready; vicecaptain, Mr. S. Oliver; secretary, Mr. J. Marshall; treasurer, Mr. L. Turner: committee, Messrs. Coombes, Taylor, Salisbury, Silvester, Cooko; lion, surgeon, Dr. F. D. Pinfold; delegate to Auckland Centre, Mr. G. W. Gilchrist.
