REVIVING INDUSTRY

AUCKLAND BUSINESS ' MEN

DESIRE TO HELP GOVERNMENT

The general committee set up at a representative meeting of Auckland business men to examine plans for improving the industrial situation met on Wednesday evening, when an executive committee was appointed. It was generally agreed that sectional interests must be completely subjected to the common welfare and that the movement should not be concerned in stimulating any particular industries or any particular types of industries. Rather will it be concerned with an examination of the possibilities of all industry and w '"j the active stimulation of movements that will permit of the development of industry, the reabsorption of unemployed at normal wage rates and a consequent restoration of purchasing power. It was further agreed that the movement should be wholly divorced from politics and that the Government and the Unemployment Board should be offered active assistance, rather than destructive criticism in the very considerable task confronting the Dominion. The following executive committee was set up:—Messrs. S. J. Harbutt, W. E. Lewisham, J. T. F. Mitchell, J. D. McMillan, S. Reid, S. Takle, F. M. Winstono and T. U. Wells.

A meeting of leading business men in Wellington is being arranged and Messrs. Mitchell and McMillan will visit Wellington for the purpose of attending.
