SOUTH AUSTRALIAN APPLES MARKET GLUT FEARED A serious glut on tlie South Australian apple' market shortly is feared by the growers. This is said to be likely, largely because the Overseas Shipping Representatives' Association has allowed that State space for the shipment of only 80,000 cases, whereas about 280,000 are available. The secretary of the South Australian Fruit Marketing Association, Mr. Whitfield, said the other day that although South Australia was having an excellent apple crop for an oft year, with an estimated production of 500.000 cases, it could not, export sufficient to prevent a serious glut on the markot. "Every effort has been made to persuade the authorities to grant South Australia more space, but without avail. They do not seem to believe South Australia is on the map," he said, "although probably it produces tho best apples in Australia."
