AMBITION OF EXPLORER WORLD CHAIN OF POSTS j WINNIPEG, Feb. 20 j A chain of meteorological stations linked j with posts in the Arctic, the tropics and the Antarctic, and in daily radio communication with a central bureau, is the ambition of Sir Hubert Wilkins. When that is a reality his life ambition will have been fulfilled, the explorer told interviewers to-day. At the point of centralisation the reports will be assembled and correlated, making long-distance weather forecasts possible. The explorer, who will accompany Messrs. Lincoln Ellsworth and Bernt Balchen on an aerial expedition to the Antarctic this summer, plans a second submarine journey to the Arctic in 1934 or 1935. The study of weather conditions will be the objective of the far north journey. The plane to be used by Mr. Ellsworth will arrive in Winnipeg to-morrow for t.est flights with Mr. Balchen at the conI trols.
