EXPORT OF FRUIT
guarantee to growers SEASON'S RATES. FIXED ' INCREASE OF 6d A CASE ' [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON. Tuesday A question whether the Government was in a position to indicate what it proposed to do in regard to the guarantee to fruitgrowers this year was asked by Mr. K. J. Holyoake (Government—Motueka) in. the House to-day. He sa-d that 45,000 cases of fruit' had already been shipped overseas. The Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. C. E. Macmillan, said it was proposed io increase the guarantee by 6d a case. It would then be 10s 6d for fancy and extra fancy and 7s for good grades, iu New Zealand currency. Last year the guarantee was lis and 7a a case respectively. It was decided to renew on the automatically-reduced basis of 10s and 6s 6d, but the Fruit Export Control Board sought to have the higher rates reinstated for the season. This year increased shipping and other charges have to be met and it is claimed that the higher guarantee will make additional finance available.
