LAWN TENNIS

PROFIT ON AMERICAN VISIT SUBSTITUTION OF PLAYERS A motion to tho effect that a player may play in only one inter-club competition held under the jurisdiction of the association was discussed at the monthly meeting of deleKates to the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association last evening, and, on being put to the vote, was lost, the present inter-club rule covering this question being considered satisfactory. The meeting approved of the elimination of free membership to clubs and all clubs are to be asked to honour this undertaking. The secretary reported that the Auckland Association would benefit to the extent of approximately £9O on the test match against the Americans. An improvement was also shown in the returns from this year's championships compared with those of last season. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr. E. W. Griffiths for his work in connection with the catering arrangements at Stanley Street and also to the Indies from tho various clubs who assisted. The question of playing another round in the one court club competition was left in the hands of the intcr-club committee. Reports on the Auckland championships and the handicap tournament were received from the respective managers, Mr. P. Harrison and Mr. L. J. Williamson. Letters dealing with the Auckland Association ladder were read, and it was decided that a committee comprising Messrs. Griffiths, Hall and Ellis be set up to revise the rules for next season. A resolution was passed expressing confidence in Mr. Griffith's management and thanking him for the work he had done. The action of the inter-club committee in refusing the transfer of T. B. O'Connor from tho Marist Club to Pukeroa was approved. The question of the substitution of players in cases where a club enters two teams was discussed at length and it was finally decided to refer the question to the interclub committee to devise a rule to govern the point.
