TO-DAY'S ILLUSTRATIONS VARIETY AND INTEREST "The news of the week in pictures" is the keynote of the large illustrated section of this week's issue of the Auckland Weekly News, which is on sale to-day. Readers are provided with a remarkably fine selection of up-to-date pictures, re- | cording events and scenes of public interest from far and near. Last week's excursion cruise of the steamer Manama to picturesque and historic places on the northern coast is comprehensively illustrated. The frontispiece and another full-page arc devoted to very fine photographs secured during the cruise, which was enjoyed by 300 excursionists. Throughout the issue there is a wealth of topical holiday snapshots from all parts of the Dominion. A recent motor tour along the completed section of the Eglinton Valley Road, which will eventually connect To Anau with Milford Sound, provides some striking photographs of the magnificent scenery on the new route. Also on the centre double-page is a splendid comprehensive view of Worsor Bay, a popular Wellington holiday and seaside resort, showing the foreshore thronged with holiday-makers. There are many arresting photographs which show the fine scenic and holiday attractions of the famed South Island lakes district. Other attractive illustrations depict scenes at Lake Rotorua, Nelson Province, at Canterbury beaches and at. Piha. Waipu Cove and Taupo in the North Island. Interesting shipping scones at Auckland record the visits of the liners Lurline and Carinthia in the course of long cruises from New York, while other photographs are picturesque v/rews of the three sailing ships in port. Outstanding subjects in the large number of illustrations which complete the issue include:—Huge Antarctic territory over which the British Government has obtained sovereign rights; activities of the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe; new gold-seeking ventures in the South Island; weddings and social .events; the latest from overseas; agricultural shows at Masterton and Pukekohe; Dunedin races; North Auckland mine tragedy, which resulted in the loss of three lives; repairing the damaged wings of the Southern Cross.
