Houghton returned to Auckland by the Lurline yesterday after a business visit to the United States. Mr. T. Watson Arthur, of Auckland accompanied by Mrs. Arthur, returned by the Lurline yesterday after a business trip to England. The Hons. C. J. Carrington and J Trevethick, M.L.C.'s, and Mr. A. g Richards, M.P., left for Wellington by last evening's express. Dr. J. D. Salmond, of Dunedin, director of youth work for the Presbyterian Church of Mow Zealand, will arrive in Auckland this morning from the south. Dr. and Mrs. Leonard Freeman, 0 f Denver, United States, arrived at Auckland by the Lurline yesterday on a holiday visit. They are at the Grand Hotel. Major P. Kerr-Smiley, of England, and Mr. A. Mathewson, of Scotland,' who have been fishing at Deepwater Cove returned to Auckland yesterdav and arl at the Hotel Cargen. M Mr. E. J. Riches, of the League of Nations International Labour Office Geneva, arrived by the Monterey yesterday. He is accompanied by Mrs. Riches* They are at the Star Hotel. Mr. Montague Cohen, managing-director of Godfrey Phillips (Australia), Limited, arrived from Sydney by the Monterey yesterday on a business visit to New Zealand. Hp is at the Hotel Cargen. Mr. David Yaffa, proprietor of the Newspaper News, of Sydney, arrived by the Monterey yesterday. He will atteud the annual conference of New Zealand newspaper proprietors to be held at Rotorua next week. Mr. L. C. Clifford, a director of fha Hume Pipe Company, arrived from Melbourne by tha Monterey yesterday oil a brief visit to New Zealand. He left for the south last evening, but will return to Auckland later. - Mr. J. L. Tattersall, of Cheshire. England, director of the Lancashire Cotton Corporation, Limited, who has been visiting New Zealand, left for San Francisco by the Monterey yesterday. He was accompanied by Mrs. Tattersall. Mr. John Fuller, a director of Fallen Theatres, Limited, of Sydney, arrived by the Monterey yesterday. He expects to spend about a week in Auckland and will visit southern centres before returning to Australia. He is at the Grand Hotel. Mr. Frank Goldberg, of Sydney, govern-ing-director of the Goldberg Advertising Agency, arrived by the Monterey yesterday. He will attend the annual conference _of the Newspaper Proprietors' Association at Rotorua next week. He is at the Grand Hotel. Mr. George Vanderbilt. a member of a famous American family, arrived at Auckland by tho Lurline yesterday on a short holiday visit. He is at the Hotel Cargen and will be joined on Friday by his brother. Mr. A. G. Tanderbilt, and his mother, who are arriving by the Carinthia, Mr. Solomon Poliakoff, a Russian author and playwright, who has made his home in Paris since the Russian revolution, arrived from Sydney by the Monterey yesterday. He proposes to spend about two months in New Zealand gathering information and impressions for articles and stories. He is at the Station Hotel. Sir Harold Boulton and Lady Bonlton, of England, who are making a tour of the world, arrived from Australia by the Monterey yesterday. They intend to spend a month in New Zealand. Sir Harold Boulton is prominently associated with benevolent hospital activities in England arid is a composer of music and songs. He has been. president of the Scottish Literature and Sone Association and director of the Royal Academy of Music. Sir Hartfld and Lady Boulton arc at the Grand Hotel.
