LATE PROFESSOR PATERSON TRIBUTES FROM UNIVERSITY Sincere tributes to the popularity of the late Professor A. C. Paterson were paid at the funeral, which was held yes terday afternoon. A short service was conducted by Canon H. R. Hobday at Professor Paterson's late residence, Vincent Avenue, Remuera, and when the funeral cortege left for Purewa Cemetery, the long line of cars bearing mourners spoke eloquently of the esteem in which Professor Paterson was held in the city. The pallbearers were Professer C. W. Egerton, Professor Maxwell Walker, Professor C. It. Knight, Professor R. M. Algie, Mr. 11. J. D. Mahon, a member of the University College Council and headmaster of the Auckland Grammar School, and Mr. E. M. Blaiklock who, as lecturer in classics, was one of Piofessor Paterson's assistants at the college. The chief mourner was Mr. Charles Simpson, Professor Paterson's stepson. Practically every member of the College Council was present, Professor Paterson having been a member of that body, appointed by the Professorial Board. Among ths members present were the chairman, Sir George Fowlds, Mr. T. U. Wells, Mr. S. I. Crookes, Mr. H. Horton, Mr. H. R. Jenkins and Mr. E. H. Northcroft. The college staff was also fully represented, whilo the president, the Rev. M. G. Sullivan, represented the Students' Association. Among others present were the Rev. H. K. Archdall, headmaster of King's College and president of the Registered Secondary Schools' Association of New Zealand, and Mr. N. Gibson, headmaster of Dilwortb School and secretary of tho association. For five years, up to 1930, Professor Paterson was a member of the King's College Board of Governors. Mr. A. St. C. Brown represented the Auckland Grammar School Board. Wreaths were sent by the Auckland University College Council, the staff and the Students' Association. Among other wreaths wero several from bowling clubs, Professor Paterson having been a keen follower of tho game. A number of prominent bowlers were present at the funeral.
