HEIRESS TO MILLIONS
YOUNG AMERICAN GIRL BRIEF VISIT TO AUCKLAND Reputed to bo the wealthiest single girl in the United States, if not in tho world, Miss Barbara Hutton, heiress to the Woolworth millions, arrived at Auckland by the Lurline yesterday on her way to spend a holiday in Australia. Miss Hutton is a pretty young woman of 19, and confesses that the one great drawback to a fortune of £10,000,000 is tho amount of personal publicity in which it involves her. "I am going to Australia simply to get out of the way of people for a time," Miss Hutton said yesterday. "If I went to England or Europe I should only meet people there, and I want to bo left alone for a while." Miss Hutton was informed that news concerning the reported breaking off of her engagement to Count Emannuel Borromeo "had been published in New Zealand, together with her denial that even an informal betrothal existed. She expressed indignation, and said such reports were silly and embarrassing. She had not yet given serious thought to the possibility of marriage. Miss Hutton, who is travelling with two friends, left with them for Rotorua yesterday morning. She will rejoin the Lurline to-morrow.
