SHIP RECAPTURED
DUTCH NAVAL MUTINY BOMB FROM THE AIR CASUALTIES AMONG CREW • SURRENDER OF SURVIVORS By Telegraph—Press Association- -Copyright (Received February 10, 5.55 p.m.) EATAVIA, Feb. 1< The commander of the Dutch navaJ squadron, sent to recapture the training ship Seven Provinces from the native* of the crew who mutinied and seized the vessel, signalled ta the mutineers, calling for their unconditional surrender. Failing this, he notified them that violence would be used. The commander demanded that the Dutch flag be hoisted and a white cloth be shown on the awning deck, and that the ship should stop 10 minutes to give the crew time for reflection. The mutineers wirelessed in reply that they were only acting in protest against the wage cuts, and that they would surrender the ship to the authorities in due 1 course. They added: "Do not hinder us." Thereupon a Dornier flying-boat was sent up and from it was dropped a bomb on the Seven Provinces. It is reported that 12 of the crew were killed and 25 injured. The mutineers then surrendered. A fire broke out on board after the explosion of the bomb, but it was soon subdued. ' The mutineers left the Seven Provinces in good order, and another crew was sent on board to take her back to her anchorage. Six bomb-laden hydroplanes had previously gone to Padang to prevent s possible attack by the mutineers. The ship, however, passed Padang without giving any trouble, and the hydroplanes returned.
