MR. BERT HINKLER

NOT A WEALTHY MAN | STATEMENT BY RELATIVES Relatives of Mr. Bert Hinkler, whc disappeared while flying from England to Australia recently, said in Brisbane last week that the general opinion was that Mr. Hinkler had received large grants of money, which he had spent for his own personal use and that he was an extremely wealthy man. The position was just the opposite, they declared. All the money he had received had been used to further the cause of aviation. Money was spent in- taking out world rights for his patents, and all that was allocated to him in Australia barely covered the protecting of his experiments.. Mr. Hinkler's life ambition, it was added, was to provide a light aeroplane as useful to mankind as the motor-car, and as accessible in price. Another idea o£ Mr. Hinkler's was to make a machine for the people of the central district* of Australia, which woilld enable them to communicate with the .more closely-popu-lated districts at reasonable cost
