STREET IN FLAMES

PETROL LORRY WRECKED The promtpitude shown by the drivr of a heavily-laden motor lorry on the main Chester Road, near Wrexham, a few weeks ago, undoubtedly saved the lives of several children, but led to the destruction of his lorry and 750 gallons of petrol. The scene was an exciting one, and for a long distance the street was one mass of flames. Tho petrol lorry was about a mile out of Wrexham when, to avoid a car- coming from a side street, the driver pulled to the off side. There he found himself suddenly confronted with a party of children with a perambulator. To avoid them he applied his brakes, and, in so doing, the lorry overturned, and within a few moments burst into flames. The position wus an alarming one. Lighted petrol ran down the street for a considerable distance, throwing up great flames, and it was nearly an hour before the Wrexham Fire Brigade had successfully coped with the danger. The lorry and its contents were completely destroyed. Tho driver himself had a miraculous escape. Pinned in the lorry when it overturned, lie was badly burned on the neck and arms before being extricatod.
