Athek, of Wellington, are at the Station Hotel. Miss Gabe Koefoed, of St. George's Bay Road, Parnell, left yesterday on a visit to Gisborne. Miss A.. Quaylo will leave by the Marama on Monday on the pleasure cruise of the northern coast. Miss Gladys Holman, of Bella Vista Road. Heme Bay, has returned from a visit to New Flymoulh. Mrs. A. C. Leonard, of St. George's Bay Road, Parnell, has returned from a visit to the Bay of Islands. Mrs. M. H. Dixon, of St.. Heliers Bay, has returned home after spending a brief holiday with her sister at Beachlands. Miss Ruth B. Jones, who has spent the last four years in India and England, will arrive at Auckland next week by the Rangitiki. -■ - The Victoria League will hold an At Home in the -League rooms on Monday evening, to enable members to meet Miss Sylvia Corner, 0.8 E., of England. Mrs. W. C. Whitney, Mrs. C. M. Rich- ! white, .Mrs. .E, E. Kitchener, and Mrs. H. Lawry, : of Auckland, will leave on February 27 for Palmerston North for the annual -Rotary- Club conference. Dr. and Mrs. L.' A. Lewis and- family, accompanied - .by Miss Madge Troutbeck, of Hamilton, who have been spending a fortnight at Minnehaha Avenue, Takapuna, will return to Rotorua early next week. The Progressive Club of the Y.W.C.A. held its weekly meeting on Thursday, Mrs. Robson presiding over a good attendance of members. A brief address on " How to Take Care of Ourselves" was given by Madame Milne, who was cordially thanked at the conclusion. Supper was served by the hostesses, Mrs. Carton, Mrs. Broker and Mrs. Peckham. The United States immigration laws have been the cause of some peculiar procedures, one of the most notable of which must be the signing-on of a 21-months-old baby girl as stewardess of a ship. The baby was Signe Elizabeth Hansen, the daughter of Captain S. Hansen, of the Norwegian tanker Osthar. If it were not for the baby being signed on as a stewardess she would not have been allowed within' American waters. Members of the St. Andrew's Ladies' Guild, Pukekohe, and their friends, tendered a farewell social to Mr. and Mrs. J. Walter Johns in the Oddfellows' Hall, Pukekohe, on Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Johns are taking up their residence at Otahulm, after a long period at Pukekohe. During the- evening the vicar, the Rev. J. P. Cowie; on behalf of their many friends, presented Mrs. Johns with a crystal jug and six goblets upon a brass tray, and Mr. Johns with a tobacco pouch.- Mr. Johns suitably responded. Musical items were given .by Mrs. J. H.' Wyatt and Mrs. H. T. Moore. The Onehunga branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union met on Thursday in.the Methodist' schoolroom. Dr. Jeannie Craig presided. It was agreed to make a. special donation of £1 toward the travelling expenses of a delegate from the district executive to the Dominion Convention to be held in Invercargill next month. It was decided to have a box for collecting funds for the Women's Christian Temperance Union orphanage. From a sum of £5 which was collected the cost of the referendum for the Bible in the Te Papapa school has been paid and the remainder will be donated to the Women's Christian Temperance Union organising fund. A paper on Francis Willard and other notable women was read by the president.
