OBITUARY

MR, J. H. SLATTERY A well-known Auckland Mr. Joseph Henry Slattery. son of the late Captain Matthew Slattery, died Ills residence at Northcote yesterday morfiing. He was born in Auckland 45 years ago, and was apprenticed to the boat- - building trade, first working for Messrs. T. M. Lane and Sons. Subsequently established himself in business in King ß Drive at Parnell, and had carried this on for over 20 years, having built several yachts and launches. He is survived by Mrs. Slattery and three young sons. MR. L. A. WOOD The death occurred at his home in Buckland Road, Epsom, recently, of ■ Mr. Llewellyn Allan Wood, at the aga of 84 years. Mr. Wood was educated at the Auckland Grammar School, under the late Mr. Kinder. .In his early days hj« was a teacher at St. Paul's Sunday School He took an active part in the suppression of the Maori uprising at Tauranga. He is survived by Mrs. Wood, one son, Mr. L. A. Wood, of Sydney, and two daughters, Mrs. 0. Bertram and Mrs. E. Pollard, of Epsom.MOTHER MARY TERESA O'CONNOR [BY TELEGRAPH —rBESS association] GREYMOUTH, Friday The death has occurred of Mother Mary Teresa O'Connor, aged 67, late Superior at Greymouth of the order of Sisters ot Mercy. She was a native of Tipperary and joined the order here in 1889. She took a leading part in the erection of a large convent at Greymouth, which was recently completed, and in, the extension of schools in this district. MR. G. E. SMITH [from our own correspondent] HUNTLY, Friday _ The death occurred on Tuesday at hi» residence, Onslow Street, Huntlv, of George Edward Smith, aged 82 vears. Mr. Smith was born at Coleford Gloucestershire, England, in 1851, and ne m ricd in 1873. Arriving in New Zealand 25 years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Smith their family settled at Huntly, where • Smith followed the occupation of a miner until he retired 12 years ago. Mr. ana Mrs. Smith would have celebrated their diamond wedding in three weeks time. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, tw sons and three daughters, all of «h » / except one daughter, reside Wunuy. There are 23 grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren.
