ANGORA RABBITS DEMAND FOR WOOL STATEMENT IN CHRISTCHURCH That there is a future for rabbit breeding for commercial purposes in Canterbury was emphasised at a ceremony in Christchurch this week. The occasion ! was the formal handing over of pedigrees | of stock presented to threo disabled | soldiers by tho Canterbury Rabbit I Breeders' Association - through the Disabled Soldiers' Rehabilitation Committee. Dr. 'jf. F. Telford, who made the presentation, stated that a five years' market had been found for Angora rabbit wool at a satisfactory price. It was learned subsequently that within the last few days two cables had been received from overseas requesting that all New Zealand's stock of Angora wool bo sent forward, and there is not enough to satisfy the demand. Prices range from 29s per lb. for highest grade wool downward. About three to three and a-half ounces of wool is obtained from a rabbit at each shearing. Three shearings a year are common and four are not unknown. At present there is a great demand for tho product in Britain, it was staled, where it is being mi.xejl with Merino wool for commercial purposes.
