EARTHQUAKE AT SAMOA
ALARM AMONG RESIDENTS NO MATERIAL DAMAGE A severe earthquake shock was experienced in Samoa shortly after 11 o'clock on the morning of January 27, It was accompanied by very loud rumblings, and houses rocked considerably. The shake lasted for over a minute. The shake was so prolonged and severe that many people became alarmed and left their houses. Crockery was dislodged and articles shaken from walls, but no material damage was done. The bells in the clock tower were caused to ring and at the Apia Observatory some of the instruments were damaged. Old residents say that the shock was the most severe in their experience.
