YESTERDAY'S SALES RETURN ON INVESTMENTS Following is a list of yesterday's transactions on New Zealand Stock Exchanges. In tho second column is given the return, based on the last annual dividend, from investment at the quoted price. In the case of Government and other redeemable securities no return is given, in view of the now method of quotation, but the months in which interest is due are shown. In calculating the return on shares in, companies which pay their dividends outside New Zealand exchange rates, being liable to fluctuation, have not been taken into consideration. AUSTRALIAN EXCHANGES t YESTERDAY'S BUSINESS (Received February 7, 0.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 7 On the Sydney Stock Exchange to-day the investment market, particularly for industrial shares, displayed a hardening tendency. The turnover was on a much larger scale than hitherto. This morning's sales included:—Commonwealth bonds: 3J per cent, 1942, £99 17s 6d; 1953, £lO2. Colonial Sugar, £54 2s 6d; Morris Hedstrom, 17s 9d; Australian Glass, 475. Included in the closing sales were: Bank of New South Wales, £3O ss; Commercial Bank of Sydney, £ls 19s; Commercial Bank of Australia, 15s 3d; Union Bank. £7 10s; National Bank (£lO paid), £l2 ss; Colonial Sugar, £54 2s 6d; New Zealand Insurance, 475; Burns Philp, 48s 6d; Australian Gas, A shares, £7 2s 6d; British Tobacco, 33s 9d; Dunlop Perdriau, 17s 7J,d; Australian Glass, 475; Tooth's Brewery, 35s 4£d; Toohey's Brewery, 20s 7£d; Berlei, 265; Ncstle's, pref., 31s Zinc Corporation, 27s 7id; Broken Hill Proprietary, 27s 9d; South Broken , Hill, 45s 9d. LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE ACTIVITY IN MINING (Received February 7, 6.5 p.m.) British Wireless RUGBY, Feb. G On the London Stork Exchange to-day the outstanding feature again was the renewed activity in mining shares. A sharp increase in sterling rates sent down the price of gold and Kaffirs (South African mines) were somewhat erratic, mostly finishing weaker on the day as the result of profit-taking. After closing the conditions were quieter than recently in the street. British funds declined about gth on the day with war loan, 3J> per cent, at £99 7s "6d, compared with £99 10s on January 2.
