DEPARTURE FROM ENGLAND!; VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND . [from our own correspondent] LONDON, Dec. 29 Among the passengers who sailed bjf the Rctoraa to-day were the 28 public schoolboys who are to tour New Zea-r land. They set out in fair weather, and, 1 - if they are lucky they will be •in tha> region of the summer seas before they; notice the motion. of the ship. The young travellers, with their rela-.-tives and friends, arrived at LiverpoofStreet station more than half an hour/ before the boat train left, and recjived;a few words of good advice from Dr. ; M. J. Kendall, chairman of the Empire Tour Committee. He told them to remember that they were representatives of : a great., system of English education whichf was the admiration of the worldsHe hoped they would carry out that tnu dition wherever they went. "You will! probably experience tremendous kindnessand goodwill," said Dr. Kendall. ' : Meet«' that goodwill with goodwill, and never*, never with the critical mind. Express - , your gratitude at every turn, and-do nos take anything for granted, but with th 4* spirit of the best type of receiver." The Iligh Commissioner was to havdi been present, but as the time of meeti ing had been altered he was unable ta(> put off another engagement.. Mr. F. T* Sandford, Secretary of the High Commissioner's Department, said the boys wera; going into beautiful summer weather in tliaj' most beautiful country in the worlds They were indeed fortunate. They wera to be ambassadors of Empire, and tiia High Commissioner had requested that} when they returned they should form; a deputation or come, singly and tell bin* what they thought of New Zealand. "When you return," said Sir. Sand-* ford, "tell your parents about your trip* and let them know that for the price! they would pay to spend the winter atj the" south of France they can travel- ioj fine ships, leaving the winter behind, find the summer in New Zealand and return in tinio for,, the summer in tliia country. The , Government of New Zea.« land has granted free passages oved the railways, and surely this is an indication that they really want you ta enjoy. yourselves." He wished them good luck a"nd "everything in the gardeu U| be better."
