DEARER SUGAR PRICES

INCREASE OF 10S A TON WHOLESALE RATES HIGHER An increase of 10s a ton in the wholesale price of sugar is announced by the Colonial Sugar Refining Company, Limited. All grades of raw and refined sugars, golden syrup and treacle are affected by the alteration, but the prices of tablet and icing sugar remain unchanged. Details of the new scale of prices are:— Brewers' crystals, £22 10s a ton; No. 1, coarse grain, £2l 15s; No. IA, fine grain, £2l; No. 2, soft, £2O 10s; No. 3, yellow ration, £l9 10s; caster sugar, £1 4s 3d per cwt.; invert sugar, £l9 a ton. The old scale of prices was introduced on October 18, when a decrease of 5s a ton was announced. Prior to that change, a decrease of 10s a ton had become operative on October 1, counteracting an increase of 10s announced on August 12. There had been a previous increase of £1 on July 1, following a reduction of 10s a ton on May 14. On April 15 last year there was a reduction of £1 on prices which had ruled since September 21, 1931, when there was an increase of £5 a ton following a rise in customs duty imposed on July 30 of that year.
