THREE WOMEN WRITERS

WINNERS OF NOBEL. PRIZE WHO NEXT? During the last 31 years three women—a Swede, a Sardinian and a Norwegian, have been winners of the Nobel prize for literature. They are Selma Lagerlof, Grazia Deledda and Sigrid Undset. These three women—a. schoolteacher, and two housewives —writing in their spare time, have laboured to rescue from literary oblivion the folklore, language, habits and history of their respective native lands. For this they have been awarded that which holds first rank in honour, remuneration, and world interest among the many competitions in different countries —the Nobel Prize in Literature. Will this honour ever come to New Zealand ?
