WAR DEBT OPINIONS
Some striking calculations of the effect upon American prosperity of cancellation of the war debts have been made by a New York firm, Munds, Winslow and Potter, in a circular issued to its clients. It states that opposition to revision of tho debt agreements comes chiefly from the agricultural districts in 'the South and West, comprising 32 States, with a population of 61,000,000, from which per cent of tho income and corporation taxes are collected. "The annual burden to which the citizens of theso 32 States would, be subjected, even by a complete cancellation of tho debis, (involving 250,000,000 dollars a year), would be about 78 cents per capita. This would be about one-fifth of that which would be borne by the citizens of the 16 States of the Middle West, North and East, which are less hostile to and, in certain important areas, even favourable to a new study of the problem."
