LATE MR. MOSS DAVIS

TRIBUTE TO GENEROSITY CITY COUNCIL MOTION The death in London of the late Mr. Moss Davis was referred to at the City Council's meeting last evening by the Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, who said that Mr. Davis and his family had been identified for many years with the commercial life of Auckland and had ahv'ayt shown a keen sens,; of 'citizenship. Since taking up his residence in London, Mr. Moss Davis had not forgotten the City of Auckland. In particular by his numerous valuable gifts to the city he had shown the same regard for it that he bad always held while resident here. Only a few weeks be/ore Mr. Davis' death, the Mayor continued, he received advice that another large collection of very valuable gift;, including oil paintings, had been shipped to Auckland. As soon as he heard t hat Mr. Davis ill he cabled the thanks of the citizens for his generosity. Ho was glad that Mr. Davis received the message. The council adopted in silence a motion to place on record its appreciation of MrMoss Davis' liberality to the city and its sympathy with the members of his family in their bereavement. The council also passed a motion of sympathy with the family of the late Mr. John Burton, a former member of the council, and father of a present councillor, Mr. H. P. Burton.
