ANOMALIES CREATED

ACCEPTED EXCHANGE BILLS OPINION OF BUSINESS MEN A request was received by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, at a meeting yesterday, from the Canterbury chamber for support for its representations to the Government with regard to anomalies created by the alteration of exchange. It was contended that anomalies had been caused in the case of bills of exchange already accepted at 30 to 90 days, and payments incurred where the goods had already been sold and charged on a lower exchange basis. It was decided to communicate with the Associated Chambers of Commerce expressing support, but also mentioning that it would appear to be logical to extend any such concession to all shipments on the water and to irrevocable orders not yet shipped. Mr. S. Takle said it was unreasonable that the banks should be insured against loss in connection with that aspect of the exchange situation.
