LOANS FOR FARMERS

CONGRESS PASSES BILL AID IN PRODUCING CROPS (Received January 25, 5.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Jan. 24 Congress to-day finally approved the bill to provide 90,000j000 dollars (£18,000,000 at par) to be lent to farmers for use in producing 1933 crops. Under the bill the crop production loan legislation passed last year is extended to cover 1933. The money is to be taken from the Reconstruction Corporation's funds and will be distributed through the Secretary of Agriculture in return for a first lien on crops. The measure provides that the Secretary may—but is not compelled to—require a borrower to cut his production 30 per cent.
