NORTH SHORE DRAINAGE
CONFERENCE TO BE CALLED EFFECT OF PROPOSED SCHEMES A decision to call a conference of the four North Shore local bodies to consider the future of drainage schemes as they affected the district was made by the Takapuna Borough Council last evening. The question arose following a meeting of residents and ratepayers of the east coast bays last week, when an emphatic protest was entered against the proposed sewerage scheme at Ranopara Point, near Castor Bay, as planned by Mr. H. H. Watkins, engineer to the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board. ■« The Mayor, Mr. J. C.uiniven, said he considered the scheme would be harmful to the amenitjes of the east coast bays. The suggested use of the borough's existing outfall at Black Rock, between Milford and Takapuna, as the common outlet for the drainage systems of the four boroughs would be equally threatening to Takapuna and Milford Beaches, he said. It was agreed to invito delegates from the boroughs to attend a conference to be held at the Takapuna Council Chambers and to ask Mr. Watkins and a representative of the Health Department to be present.
