HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST

UNSETTLED, WITH SHOWERS

Tho following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening: — Pressure has increased in the south, while tropical influences arc again developing north-westward of the Dominion. Conditions favouring tho development of an extensive rainstorm are indicated in the distribution of barometric pressure, there being increased activity in tho tropics. Expect cloudy and unsettled weather, with rain following in most districts, heavy in the Waikato and North Auckland. Further scattered thunderstorms are Hkely, particularly in the north. Easterly to southeasterly winds, moderate to strong, prevailing and freshening. Seas rough and increasing on the east coast, especially northward of East Cape. Smooth to moderate seas on the %yest coast. Local outlook : Unsettled, with occasional heavy thundershowers, chiefly in the afternoon. Warm and humid conditions. GOVERNMENT REPORT The Government meteorologist, reported last evening as follows:—A fairly intense anticyclone now covers the Tasman Sea and New Zealand, its area of highest pressure extending from Tasmania to ■ Otago. Pressure is low over tho greater part of Australia. Indications are for moderate to strong but decreasing southerly to south-easterly winds, later backing to north-easterly. Seas .rough between Kaikoura and East Capo and in the Cook Strait area, elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate south-east to east and later north-east winds; seas moderate. Weather fair to fine generally, but some passing showers at first in eastern and far northern portions of the North Island. Temperatures cool but becoming warmer again after to-morrow.
