ATLANTIC FLIERS
RECORD ESTABLISHED FRANCE TO ARGENTINA (Received January 23, 9.5 p.m.) BUENOS AIRES, Jan. 22 Captain Jean Mermoz, the French pilot who, with six ' companions, flew across the Atlantic from Africa to Brazil, recently, landed at Buenos Aires to-day, thus terminating a flight from Istres, France. His flying timo was 54 hours 33 minutes, which is a record.
Captain Mermoz used a triple-engined aeroplane to demonstrate the practicability of a regular South Atlantic service, and his crew included the constructor of the machine, M. Rene Couzinet. The aeroplane weighs 12 .tons. It averaged more than 140 miles an hour, setting a recfljd of 14 hours 2 minutes for the 1962 miles westward across the South Atlantic. Captain Mermoz and his party were the first to breakfast in Africa and dine in Brazil.
