/ ■ SEVEN CAMPERS DROWNED ENORMOUS DAMAGE CAUSED new south wales visitation Torrential rain in New South Wales has brought in its train tragic happenings. Five members of one family and two other lads were drowned in a sudden rush of flood waters on to a camping ground at an island surf-bathing resort, during a terrific storm. The father was drowned as he was endeavouring to swim to the mainland to secure help. His two-year-old son, who was strapped to his shoulders, was also drowned. The mother, two of her children and the two other boys, all '' of whom had been tied to a tree by Mr. Davis, perished when the rope broke, one girl only escaping. The results of the storm generally are described as the worst for years. Hundreds of homes were flooded in Sydney suburbs, residents waking to find their beds awash, their m,series being increased by a cyclonic gale. Transport services in low-lying spots were brought to a standstill by floods. One river rose 14ft., the water invading an adjacent town, and another rose 18ft. Campers, other than those drowned, had perilous experiences before being rescued. A family was trapped in a cottage "which was engulfed in a landslide in a small mining town. The damage in Sydney and suburbs is estimated at about £50,000. The weather bureau at Sydney has predicted furt er wild weather. . - ---- --
