BOMBAY DEVIATION

TAR-SEALING OPERATIONS

ANOTHER SECTION CLOSED

The work of tar-sealing the Bombay Hills deviation between Bombay and Pokeno on the Great South Road progressed another stage yesterday, when the middle section of the route, between the Bombay-Pukekohe road intersection and the Great South Road north of Pokeno, was closed to traffic. The southern section, from the Great South Road intersection north of Pokeno to the township, was closed last week, when work was begun, and it has not yet been reopened. Traffic is now required to use the old Razorback Hills route, which is in fair condition. Signs to direct traffic were erected yesterday by patrols of the Auckland Automobile Association. Another route, suitable for use in fine weather, is that through Whangarata, but as 'the surface ia of clay, it is not advisable to attempt the trip immediately after rain. It is expected that the whole route will be tar-sealed and ready for traffic within about four weeks. Before work on the northern section is commenced, the southern portion will be reopened.
