THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE LEVELS A SHADE EASIER JL Less animated conditions ruled on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday and levels were easier for many of those shares which rose suddenly at the end of last week. Government securities were steady, although offers for 1938 4£ per cent stock at £95 5s and 1937 5£ per cent February stock at £lOl were a shade lower: Business was done in 1937 5£ per cent September bonds and stock, both sales being 5s higher at £lOl ss. Bank issues were " available at lower prices, but gains were registered in sales. Commercials were placed Is higher at 15s Bd, but the market closed with quotations 6d lower at 15s 7d, offers showing a reduction of 5d to 15s sd. Offers for the prefeience issue rose by 10s to £7 17s 6d, a parcel changing hands 7s higher at £7 17s, when a concession was made by holders. Bidding for New Zealands eased by 3d all round, and two sales were completed 3d higher at 43s 6d.
While Queensland insurances wero a shade weaker, New Zealands and South British continued to, harden. A parcel of New Zonlands was placed 3d higher at 44s 6d.
In the loan and agency group, New Zealand Loan and Mercantiles were secured at £37 10s, a reduction of £2l 10s on the last salo three months ago. Pukemiro Collieries declined on sale by 3s 6d to 22s 6d. Holders of Colonial Sugars reduced their limits by £1 10s to £52, at which price a sale £1 2s 6d lower took place. Other leading issues were quoted on a fairly steady basis.
There was a more conservative trend in the mining market. Waihis were traded briskly Id lower at 21s lOd, with an intervening sale at 21s 9d. Closing offers were 2d lower at 21s Bd, quotations being Id lower at 21s lid. Waihi Junctions and Mount Lyells also moved downward, but no lots changed hands. Golden Dawns sold unchanged at 4s 6d, and Nokoinais were cheaper at 5s 9d and 5s lOd.
