LABOUR MEN IN GAOL
MEMORIAL FOR RELEASE REQUESTS TO MR. MacDONALD LONDON, Dec. 20 The Leader of the Labour Opposition, Mr. G. W. Lansbury, and two colleagues are travelling to see tho Prime Minister, Air. MacDonaid, at his home in Lossiemouth. They are carrying a memorial urging the release of Tom Mann and Einrhys Llewellyn, the Labour agitators who were sent to prison for two months on December 18 through their activities during the recent London riots. Both were charged with disturbing the peace and inciting demonstrations. They were bound over for 12 months in sureties of £3OO, but they declined to enter the necessary recognisances and were removed to prison. Tho memorial, which is signed by tho majority of prominent Labour members, including ex-Ministers, urges their release on the grounds that the conviction was in the nature of a persecution and alien to modern temper. In reply to a telegram announcing the departure of tho delegation," Mr. MacDonald said the question had been fully debated in the House of Commons, but he was always willing tp receive bis friends on personal visits. Nevertheless, he must leavo Lossiemouth at 12.30 to-rnorrow in order to keep his engagements. Mr. Lansbury hopes to arrive at'noon.
