DISTRESS SIGNALS AT SEA - Revised instructions for, signals of distress find urgency, drafted under section 25 of the Merchant Shipping (Safety Loan Line Conventions) Act of this year were published under an Order in Council in the London Gazette last month. The following 'Signals of distress for use both by day and night are authorised, in addition to those already in force:— A signal made by radio-telegraphy or by any other distance signalling method consisting of the group . i. . * ... in the Morse code. A Signal;,sent by radio-telephony consisting ' 6f the spij'ken word "Mayday," . . A signal sent by radio-felegraphy in the ■Moree code consisting .of a series of 12 nfishes, each of four seconds' duration, transmitted in one minute with an interval of one second between each dash. The signal of urgency will be "Several repetitions of the group XXX in the Morse , code 6ent by radio-telecrnphy with the letters _ of each group and the successive groups dwtly separated from each other." THE MARIPOSA The Oceanic Company's liner Mariposa, which is due from San Francisco and Los Angeles, via Island ports, next Tuesday, will berth at Queen's Wharf to land passengers, mail and cargo for New Zealand. THE ZEALANDIA On her last, trip in. the intercolonial service, the Huddart-Paiker steamer Zealandia left Sydney for Auckland at 5.30 O'clock last evening with passengers, mail and .cargo. The vessel is due on Tuesday morning and she will sail on return trip to Sydney next Friday afternoon. - . , , • THE OTA 10 To complete loading for London, Avonmouth, Liverpool and Glasgow, the New Zealand Shipping Company's motor-shin Ota;.o is to sail for Lyttelton at eleven o'clock this morning. THE RANGITATA I After unloading general merchandise from London, the New Zealand Shipping Company's motor-liner Rangitata i£ to 9 leave Wellington for Lyttelton to-day -to commerce loading for her IjOmeward voyage. From Lyitelton she will proceed to Napier, Auckland and Wellington to complete her cargo. The vessel is due at Auckland on January 12 and she is scheduled to leave Wellington for London, via Panama, on January 20. > - TAMAEOA REPORTS' , The Shaw, Savill aftd Albion liner Tamaroa has reported by wireless that she will reach Wellington from London and Southampton next Wednesday.
