Mrs. H. Bloom and Miss Rose Cohen, of London, Miss Mildren Kramer, of the United States and Mrs. A. Gartley, of Honolulu, are among tho overseas visitors at the Grand Hotel
Professor R. H. Laurence-Toole and Mrs. Lauronce-Toole, of New South Wales Conservatorium of Music, Sydney, are spending the vacation touring Now Zealand and are at present staying with Mrs. Arthur Chatwyn, Mount Eden.
The distinction of being the first woman elder in any church in the British Isles, if not in the Empire, is held by Miss Helen N. Barton, who was recently appointed nn elder of the United Free Church at Ayr, Scotland. Miss Barton played a prominent part in the Church's Assembly held in Edinburgh recently.
The suggestion that a woman should no longer be required to state whether she is a spinster or married when filling up legal and other documents was made by l)r. Amy Sheppard to Soroptimist Club members in London recently. " I greatly rfcsent the fact that we should still have to state whether we are spinsters or not," Dr. Sheppard said indignantly.
