LIGHTS ON LORRIES

Sir,™-After such a tragic accident as is reported under the heading "Holiday Tragedy" in Tuesday's llebald, it is time something was done to make a distinction between motor-cars and motorlorries when travelling at night. Most lorries have an overhang of from 6in. to lft. on either side. When meeting one of these at night on a narrow road it is very dangerous, as with the dazzle of the headlights, which are rarely adjusted in compliance with the by-laws, it is impossible to tell whether it ba- lorry or car. Would it not be a simple but effective means of distinction if yet another by-law were made requiring lorries to carry a green light, either upon the right mudguard or between the headlights ? M. R. Thompson.
