NEW AUTOGYRO
LANDING AT LOW SPEED ONLY SHORT RUN NEEDED British Wireless RUGBY. Dec. 28 Much importance is attached in aeronautical circles to the Air Ministry's decision to place an order for an experimental autogyro machine, the largest yet planned, to cany five passengers, it will be fitted with a radial engine, probably of the Armstrong-Siddoley 500 h.p. "Panther" type.
It is estimated that the machine will have a top speed of 160 miles an hour and a cruising speed of 1.30 miles an hour, with a slow speed of about 20 miles an hour The constructors expect the machine to be able to take off after a run of about 70 yards, and to land at a low speed, needing a very short run to pull up. FIRST FATAL ACCIDENT ' MACHINE GOES INTO SPIN PA IMS, Dec. 19 * The first fatal autogyro accident has resulted in the death of one of France's ablest pilots, Pierre Martin. AL Villa-Coublay he took a new machine on a trial flight. It rose 100 ft., and then went into an inexplicable spin and crashed.
