CAMP FOR CHILDREN
PORT WAIKATO SCHEME MANY IMPROVEMENTS MADE [from our own correspondent] ( HAMILTON, Thursday A company of 200 children, the guests of the Waikato Children's Camp League, left Hamilton by the river steamer Manuwai at noon to-day for ' a fortnight's holiday at Port Waikato. Arrangements for the holiday involved a good deal of organising by the promoters, Mr. W. H. Paul and Mrs. If. C. Ross, chairman and secretary of the league respectively. Dona.tions of cash and foodstuffs were liberally supplied by residents of the town and country.- Branches of the Women's Institute were particularly helpful with gifts of food. A' permanent camp has been established at Port Waikato on land given to the league by Mr. Edward Spargo, and ample accommodation has been provided lor the children. Punga fences have been erected round the camp and ornamental shrabs have been planted. There was a large crowd at the Hamilton Wharf this morning when the steamer departed with the holiday-makers. As the steamer paddled its way downstream popular choruses were surig by the children and hearty cheers were given.
