EXTRACTS FROM THE HERALD The following arc extracts from the New Zealand Hebald of December 7, 1882/ ilr. Miluer Stephen, who has arrived in '.Auckland from Australia, will exercise his " gilts of healing " in New Zealand. He disavows any connection with spiritualism, save " the spiritualism of the Bible." Jfe stales that lie is not a mesmerist. Mr. Stephen says four out of every five clergymen would deny that the " gifts of healing" were in existence in the world since Apostolic time/5. Jn Sydney his exhibitions for public healing were performed in ihe presence of clerical and medical visitors. The medical profession was somewhat/ hostile, contending that any remedial results were temporary, and caused by an excited imagination. It is said Mr. Stephen's methods resemble those of Dr. J. R. Newton, in New York Newton has retired, but he stilL sends his power by fabrics through .the post. v Since the annexation of the Ponsonbv, Grafton and Kavangahape districts to the. , . 0 City Council has lost no time in obtaining plant to extend the water ijupply to those places., 1 J
