EX-SOLDIER'S DEATH

VERDICT OF SUICIDE An inquest into the death of Patrick Moipney, aged 40, an ex Imperial Army war pensioner, who was found dead in his room at 20 Day Street, Newton, on Sunday morning, near a gas tube, was held by the coroner, Mr. W- R. McKean, S.M., yesterday. Patrick James Walsh, a boarder at the same house ns deceased, said he smelt gas coming from deceased's room, and found l.irn dead on the floor. The gas was turned on. Josephine Moroney, widow of deceased, said she and her five children had been living apart from deceased. He had been addicted to drink, and his treatment was such that she could no longer live with him. He once threatened to cut her throat, and at times appeared mental. The coroner returned a verdict of suicide by gas poisoning.
