SUBSIDY FOR BUILDING

CRITICISM AT WANGANUI [nv TKr.i-:<uiArir—press association] WANGANUI, Monday A representative meeting of Wanganui limber and hardware merchants to-day passed a resolution describing the No. 10 building subsidy scheme as a serious error as applied to the erection of new houses. Ihe resolution stated that, while tho No. 10 subsidy scheme, as applied to renovations and certain classes of buildings, was of assistance, the meeting considered the scheme as at present applied to the erection of new houses a serious error. Any superficial stimulation of building, notwithstanding its temporary benefit to the building trade, was far outweighed bv further intensified depreciation of values of existing properties.
