FLYING FOR BOYS
PROPOSAL AT CHRISTCHURCH COURSE DURING HOLIDAYS In order In encourage younger people to fly, the Canterbury Aero Club has decided to run a flying school for secondary schoolboys during the Christmas holidays, giving them their training at a cheaper rate than usual. The course wil l include a certain amount of ground instruction. All secondary schools in Canterbury will have an opportunity to nominate one oi- more pupils. If more are offering than the instructor to the chili thinks'that he run train during the holidays, the fortunate ones will probably be decided by ballot. Probably fewer than ten pupil? will be wanted. Hoys who are nominated will be put through their first two hours of dual instruction, when it will be derided whether they promise to make good pilots. Those who do not shape well will not be taken further with their training, as it is considered belter that they should not. be encouraged lo ahead with flying if they arc not Ruing to be really good airmen.
As the boys will be flying regularly, and will not have to spread their training over a long period, it is expected I hey will get to the stage when they can pass the, tests for their licences more quickly than older men, who are not, able to get to Ihe aerodrome every flay. Should bud weather hold up the course, the boys will be able lo finish their training in the early mornings and evenings after the schools resume next. year. One stipulation will ho that boys must, be 17 years of age by next March.
