PROSECUTION AT WHANGAREI

[FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT]

WHANGAREI, Monday

Tn the Magistrate's Court to-day Edward Griffin admitted a charge of operating a heavy motor vehicle on the M{iunu Road while carrying a greater load than (he maximum load ho was licensed to carry.

The district traffic inspector, Mr. F. Watters, said the load was 12cwt. in excess. "There .is no excuse for overloading in this county," he added, "as this man could have obtained a licence to carry tons, whereas he was licensed to carry 3£ tons. Defendant had since taken out a licence for tons." "No doubt a concerted effort is being made to stop .overloading, and I do not feel disposed to reduce the fine at present," said Mr. G. N. Morris, S.M. "If they take the risk they must be prepared to pay. I will convict him and fine him £3 and costs."-
