PENiIONS SURRENDERED

RELATIVES CONTRIBUTING CANBERRA. Nov. 19 Since the coming into operation of the Financial Emergency Act on September 1, under which relatives, where possible, are bound to contribute toward the pensions of those receiving them, 2000 invalid and old age pensions have, already been surrendered in all States. Another clause of the Act provides that any pension money paid after October 12 will become a charge on the property of the pensioner after his death.

NEW SOUTH WALES BILL DROPPED

SYDNEY, Nov. 19 The New South Wales Government has decided to drop tho Destitute Persons Maintenance Bill, introduced recently by tho Minister of Education, Mr. J. Druinmond. The object of the measure was to compel near relatives of destitute persons to provide for their support.
