FLIGHT TO ENGLAND
AUSTRALIAN STAGE
GERMAN AIRMAN STARTS
(Received November 16. 7.55 p.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 16 Captain Hans Bertram, the German airman who was lost in Central Australia, hopped off from Sydney to-day on the first stage of his flight to London in his Junkers monoplane with Mr. G. U. Allen (Australia) as co-pilot, and a mechanic and passenger. He hopes to leave northwest Australia about December 12.'
The party was given a rousing send-off
Captain Bertram's object in the flight to England is to establish a record for commercial flights. He will take samples of Australian produce from all the States. Sir K : ngsford Smith released Mr. Allen from his arrangement to accompany him on his Tasman flight early next year, so that he might go with the German airman.
