YACHTING IN SYDNEY
Reports to hand from Sydney regarding the prospects of the yachting season are most encouraging and there is every reason to believe that the 1932-33 season will be the most successful for some years. Both the senior yacht clubs are staging events for the now numerous sailing skiff class and these wonderful little speedsters bid fair to rival their sisters in popularity. Their appearance adds considerably to the animation of Sydney Harbour week by week.
One of the big motor yacht clubs has abolished race fees in order to stimulate entries; courses have been altered and the character of the events changed. The number of innovations in the boats themselves is such that it is difficult to keep pace with them. The trend to Bermudian rig' is more pronounced than ever, a number of wellknown Sydney yachts having already appeared with their new sails.
The racing skiff/ a new class among motor craft, is making its presence felt. Cruiser and speedboat owners have launched out into new and improved types, while ft notable advance in high-powered hydroplanes has excited much interest. A super-hydroplane, known as the Cettien, has made her appearance and is said to be the fastest water craft in Australia. She is 21ft. long with a beam of 7ft. and is fitted with a Liberty engine.
