THE KARETU The Karetu is due from Newcastle and bydney, via Suva, to-morrow. The vessel will unload fruit from Suva at Prince's \\harf and coal from Newcastle, at Western \V harf. After discharge she will return to Newcastle and Sydney. MARAMA RESUMING The Marama was docked at Wellington on t nday m connection with her overhaul. 1 lie vessel is to bo recommissioned this week after being laid up during the winter months. She will be despatched from Wellington for Sydney on Friday. RANGITANE AT COLON Reported to have reached Colon on Thursday the New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Rangitane is en route from London with passengers and mail for New Zealand and cargo for discharge at Wellington and Auckland. She is due at Wellington on November 23 and at Auckland about November 29. NIAGARA AT SYDNEY The Royal Mail liner Niagara arrived at Sydney from Auckland at 5.30 o'clock on Saturday morning. The vessel will leave Sydney next Thursday and Auckland the following Tuesday on her return voyage to Suva, Honolulu and Vancouver. CARGO FROM CAPETOWN The Shaw, Savill and Albion motor-ship Tarnnaki, which left Liverpool for Auckland. Wellington, Lyttelton. Dunedin and Bluff on November 1, will call at Capetown to load for New v Zealand. The vessel is scheduled to arrive at Capetown on November l£i and to reach Auckland on December 11. lONIC CLEARED SOUTHAMPTON The Shaw, Savill and Albion liner lonic cleared Southampton on JFriday with passengers and mail for New Zealand and cargo from London for discharge at Wellington and Auckland. She is due at Wellington on December 14 and at Auckland about December 20. THE HALERIC After unloading a phosphate cargo from Ocean Island at King's Wharf, the Bank Line steamer Haleric- sailed for Australia on Saturday afternoon. The vessel is to load a quantity of lead at Townsville and copra at Sydney for Europe. MATAROA REPORTS L. D. Nathan Hnd Company. Limited, have been advised that the Shaw. Savill and Albion liner Mataroa has reported bv wireless that she will arrive at Wellington from London and Southampton at eight o'clock on Thursday morning. _ The vessel has passengers and mail for New Zealand and general merchandise for. discharge at Wellington and Auckland. Sue is due at this port early next week. OPAWA FOR FINAL LOADING The New Zealand Shipping Company's motor-ship Opawa arrived from Nanier on Saturday morning and berthed at Central Wharf to complete loading. The vessel 18 scheduled to sail for London, via on Thursday, and she is scheduled to reach London on December 15. THE R.M.M.S. AWARUA AT DUNEDIN The Bluff Harbour Board's new screw tug Awarua reached Dunedin on Friday afternoon from Scotland, via the Suez Canal and Albany. She is todockat Port Chalmers before proceeding to Bluff. Hie Awarua was built by Messrs. Lognitz and Company, Limited, at Renfrew, and is classed 100 A 1 at Lloyd's. She is described as one of the most powerful tugs m the world, and was designed to meet the special requirements at the port of Bluff, where large ships such as the motor-liner Ran r .i } uf class of nearly 17.000 tons gross register have to be handled in restricted waters where stron" tides and strong winds have to be contended The dimensions o the Awarau are: —Length, 130 ft., breaaMi (moulded). 32ft.: depth. 15 ft ; mean draught. 12ft. 6in.; dead weight, 180 tons. She has also been designed to act as a pilot vessel and for salvage work. Special boats are carried for the use of pilots, and a heaiy derrick and hold are fitted forwnrd for handling salvage pumps and geai when re (luired Ample coal bunker space, has been provided, giving the tug an extensive radius of action.
