AMERICAN MAIZE

GERMAN PURCEHASE LIKELY 20,000,000 BUSHELS MENTIONED (Received November 6, 0.35 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Nov. 5 A report to the Commerce Department from the American Consul at Hamburg indicates that Germany probably will soon import up to 20,000,000 bushels of American maize. The means of financing the deal are not revealed. There is a possibility that the Reconstruction Finance Corporation will handle the matter, although some people consider Germany's financial situation is such that she may pay cash. The reason for the purchase is that the low price of the American grain makes competition with Argentina possible.
