COUNTRY HOARDINGS
REGULATION BY BY-LAW COUNTY COUNCIL'S DECISION The Amuri County Council has adopted a by-law relating to hoardings, a subject upon which tho South Island Motor Union and tho Christchurcli branch of tho Town Planning Institute of New Zealand circularised county councils some time ago. Tho Amuri County's by-law came into force on November 1, but as regards certain provisions as they affect boardings in existence on that date, their operation is suspended for five years. No hoarding is to bo erected within the county until the County Council's consent in writing bus been obtained; hoardings aro to bo constructed in tho most substantial manner, and. consent will not be given for their erection until a plan has been approved by tho council, and plans of any alterations necessary to make them "safo and efficient" must bo approved by the council. No hoarding is to bo of a greater height than Wit. abovo the level of tho ground. Hoardings must bo licensed before any advertisements, placards, etc., can bo displayed on them, and the licenco is to expire on March 31 following tho date on which thoy wcro issued. No licence is to be issued "if, in tho opinion of tho council, any such existing or proposed hoarding is, or is likely to be, unsightly or otherwise objectionable." No advertisement, placard, etc., is to be displayed which in tho council's opinion will "affect injuriously tho amenities of any public place used by tho public for purposes of recreation or enjoyment," or which will "disfigure or injuriously affect tho natural beauty of a landscape or tho view of rural scenery from any public place.
