STOCKS AND SHARES

THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE BANK OF NEW ZEALANDS RISE Quiet conditions existed on the Auckland Stock Exchange on Saturday morning. The most notable feature was a distinct upward movement in Bank of New Zealands following, the declaration of a lower rate of dividend, which apparently was not cut quite as much as the market anticipated. Government loans remained in strong demand and sellers continued to operate sparingly. Business was done in 1937 5? per cent bonds, which changed hands for the first time since September, at an advanco of 22s 6d to £IOO ss. Inquiry for banks generally was rather restricted, but offers were slightly firmer for Australasias and New South Wales. Dealing in New Zealaruls took place Is higher at 47s without fully satisfying inquiries at that price. Holders were firm at 47s 3d for moro. Commercials of Australia were done 2d lower at 14s 5d with holders closing slightly firmer than on the previous day. Unions wero unsupported at £7 15s. Other sections of the market were inactive. Support, was a little easier for Auckland Gas, but supplies remained firmly held. New Zealand Breweries were wanted a shade firmer, but the offers met with no response from holders. Interest in Australian investments was a little easier. ... The mining section was quiet with little alteration in levels. Waihis were done at 18s. Junctions were firm, sellers asking a penny more at 3s 7d.
